Silver, Nickeline

Nipissing Mine
Cobalt
Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 19.1x11.2x4.0 cm
Largest crystal size: n/a mm

The Nipissing Mine was the largest of all the mines in Cobalt. That is because the original claim staker staked four claims instead of the one or less claims that the other prospectors did. There were quite a few veins in this operation, one of the first to begin production, in the camp. This vein section. sawn on one side to reveal the mineralogical textures better, shows rich native silver, associated with nickeline, the nickel arsenide mineral. Excellent example!
