Here's a choice cut of lustrous, brassy pyrite after marcasite. These tabular crystals are the particular type of pseudomorph that the Nanisivik Mine is best known for. There is a single calcite crystal clinging onto the back face of the specimen. It's a unique specimen of epitaxially orientated pyrite from this long closed zinc mine.
The Nanisivik Mine was a zinc-lead mine in the company town of Nanisivik, Nunavut, 750 km (470 mi) north of the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island. The mine first opened on 15 October 1976 and permanently closed in September 2002 due to low metal prices and declining resources. Sphalerite was the main ore. It was one of the most northerly mines in the world.
Please note, this is a fairly heavy duty specimen and may require additional shipping.
