A MONSTER specimen of native copper that is a classic "copper skull" from the Keweenaw Peninsula. It is, perhaps the largest that I have seen. These types of formations occur when copper solutions invade conglomerate beds and partially replace cobbles in the conglomerate. When the conglomerate deteriorates, a copper form like this results and is recovered during the mining process. Usually they are much smaller than this. Amazing!
