A fine specimen of celestine from the Dundas Quarry (LaFarge Quarry) in West Flamborough, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The piece features a cluster of very light blue-grey celestine crystals displaying interesting and somewhat complex crystal forms. The crystals show a soft translucent quality and gentle colour that contrasts nicely with the surrounding matrix, giving the specimen an elegant and balanced appearance.
The Dundas Quarry is well known among Ontario collectors for producing a wide variety of attractive mineral specimens from cavities within the dolostone of the Lockport Formation. Celestine is one of the more notable species found there, occurring in vugs along with calcite, fluorite, sphalerite, and other minerals. Collecting opportunities have historically been limited and sporadic, making good celestine specimens from this locality increasingly desirable examples of mineralization from the Niagara Escarpment region.
