A cabinet sized plate of milky white apophyllite crystals from the L.A.B Mine (Lake Asbestos Bell), formally known as the Mine Lac d'Amiante (often mislabelled as the Lake Asbestos mine or Black Lake mine).
It is one of two huge open pit mines south-east of the village of Black Lake, (the second is the British Canadian mine), the area is also home to at least seven smaller asbestos mines and prospects. The LAB mine occupies the site where Black Lake once was, drained to expose the asbestos orebody by the United Asbestos Corp. Ltd in 1878 (just one year later than the Johnson mine, the region's first asbestos mine). As of 2011 the mine shut down all operations. Excellent sample from a classic locality!
