Prehnite

Jeffrey Mine, Val des Sources (Asbestos), Quebec
Canada
Dimensions: 2.6x2.4x1.7 cm
Largest crystal size: 26 mm
Price: CA

$85.00

This specimen features a sharp beige-white semi-translucent and euhedral prehnite crystal. Most prehnite is botryoidal or a replacement of earlier formed crystals, and it is also usually green. This style of well formed colourless crystal is a real rarity and comes from the renowned and long-closed Jeffrey Mine. As well, the specimen comes out of the collection of the legendary Rock Currier (includes the original label).

The Jeffrey Mine, began operations in 1879. Global demand for asbestos plummeted in the 1980s due to the recognition of its carcinogenic properties and subsequent worldwide bans on its use as a building material. Financial resources were ultimately depleted in 2001, leading to the mine's closure and inactivity since then.

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). International customers are charged in CAD, exchange rate is calculated automatically by your bank/paypal upon checkout.
