Millerite, Chalcopyrite

Temagami Mine
Lake Temagami
Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 8.4x5.7x4.1 cm
Largest crystal size: 5mm mm
Price: CA

The Temagami Mine has been closed for decades. It was a rich, sulphide copper deposit discovered in the early 1950's, openned in 1955 and closed in 1072. It was considered to be the largest orebody of almost pure chalcopyrite, ever discovered in Canada. One of the accessory minerals that occurred was millerite. Here is an excellent example showing stout, prismatic, curved crystals in a vug in pure chalcopyrite. There are also coarse, cleavages of millerite in the chalcopyrite. Nice-looking, unusual piece!

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). International customers are charged in CAD, exchange rate is calculated automatically by your bank/paypal upon checkout.
