Among small amethystine quartz crystals in a hydrothermal vein, this is one of the many gold samples that came out of the Olinghouse Mine. Gold was collected specifically to be specimens for mineral collectors, about in the 1990s. Specimens of gold from this mine consist principally of wire gold and "nest" gold (loose aggregates of irregularly twisted gold wires). With some magnification, you can see how beautiful and lustrous the glittering crystals are. The mine is now closed, with further specimen production unlikely.
