The Faraday Uranium Mine was well known for large cavities that contained giant calcite crystals and other minerals. Often the calcite crystals were damaged by blasting which resulted in lots of "Iceland spar, the name given to clear, cleavage fragments of calcite. This is a good example and excellent for demonstrating double refraction, as you can see in the second photo.
