This specimen features beige-to-yellow, platy, vuonnemite crystals nestled in a matrix of lilac ussingite, originating from the Lovozero Massif, a complex pegmatite. The specimen also appears to contain some bright yellow sphalerite. These specimens are also known to contain, massive serandidte and black aegerine, which this specimen may also contain in small amounts.
Ussingite is a relatively rare tectosilicate mineral typically found in ultra-agpaitic environments, and vuonnemite is itself an exceptionally uncommon niobium-bearing silicate-phosphate species. This particular specimen hails from the renowned Lovozero Massif in the Kola Peninsula, Russia—one of the world's most significant localities for rare minerals formed in hyperalkaline, agpaitic pegmatites. The Lovozero Massif is celebrated for producing a vast diversity of exotic mineral species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth.
