Vivianite

Morococala Mine, Santa Fé mining district, Pantaleón Dalence Province, Oruro
Bolivia
Dimensions: 4.6x1.4x1.1 cm
Price: CA

$60.00

This specimen features a lustrous, sharp, prismatic crystal of vivianite from the famed Morococala Mine in Bolivia, one of the most celebrated vivianite localities in the country and the source of some of the world’s most recognized crystals of the species. The piece is matrix-free, displaying a single, deep blue-green gemmy crystal. Both the front and back surfaces appear to be cleavage faces.

Specimens from Morococala are no longer being mined, and fine examples have become increasingly difficult to obtain on the market today. This piece bears an old collection number glued to the back, and comes from the collection of Peter Tarassoff, who purchased it at the 2004 Rochester Mineral Show.

A superb, high-quality example for collectors of Bolivian minerals, or phosphate species.
