"Endlichite" is an outdated name for arsenic bearing vanadinite where it forms a solid solution series between vanadinite and mimetite, with arsenic increasingly replacing vanadium. This rare secondary mineral results from the oxidation of primary lead minerals like galena and typically precipitates from aqueous solutions in veins and cavities alongside other secondary lead minerals. This specimen, from the Ahumada portion of the mine, features lustrous brown, tapering hexagonal prisms of endlichite on crystallized calcite, encrusting both wulfenite and limonite. The areas adjacent to the terminations of the endlichite crystals are reddish-brown and translucent, adding to the aesthetic appeal. Acquired by Dr. Tarassoff in 1959, this piece represents a classic and beautiful example of endlichite.
