This specimen features a bright yellow tuft of acicular needles of the rare radioactive mineral forming within cavity of a hematite-stained, altered pegmatite matrix. These specimens are from the Faraday/Madawaska Mine, a former uranium mine with a rich history. Discovered in 1953, Faraday Uranium Mines Ltd. began underground development in 1954, with production running from 1957 to 1964. The mine resumed operations in 1975 under Madawaska Mines Ltd., continuing until 1982 when the mine was finally closed.
