This attractive specimen features the rare manganoan variety of tremolite, an amphibole mineral distinguished by its lilac color. Known as hexagonite, this variety was originally believed to have a hexagonal form but has since been proven to be monoclinic. Hexagonite is found in only two New York counties, with this piece originating from one of several talc mines in St. Lawrence County. The specimen beautifully showcases the gradual growth of fibrous crystals, transitioning from acicular fibers to a mass of larger crystals at the apex. This is a sweet example of a rare and unique mineral.
