This specimen consists of single gemmy green tremolite crystal prism, cleaved at the bottom but terminated at the top. A very good example of the tremolite found at this area. Tremolite from the area is often referred to as "actinolite," as the two minerals form a solid-solution series with nearly identical compositions—tremolite being magnesium-dominant, and actinolite containing more iron. Since the exact composition of these crystals is unknown, we simply classify them as tremolite. While tremolite is relatively common in the region, it usually appears as dense, white to grey fibrous intergrowths, making these fairly well-formed, green crystals a more exceptional and desirable occurrence.
