This specimen consists of a pair of tremolite crystals with notable lustre, gemminess and striking internal light refraction. Though the prism ends are broken, the piece remains an excellent example of the quality of tremolite found at this locality. Tremolite from the area is often referred to as "actinolite," as the two minerals form a series with nearly identical chemical compositions—tremolite being magnesium-dominant and actinolite containing more iron. Since the exact composition is unknown, we classify these crystals as tremolite. While tremolite is relatively common in the area, it is typically found as dense, fibrous intergrowths, making these well-formed, gemmy crystals a bit more of an exceptional find.
