This specimen is an almost solid mass of tourmaline with a bit of white quartz. It features one primary lustrous uvite crystal from the Grenville occurrence on the U.S. side of the St. Lawrence River. The crystal boasts well-formed faces, characteristic of classic tourmalines from Power's Farm, also known as Bower Powers Farm. Historically, these tourmalines were initially identified as schorl, then reclassified as iron-bearing uvite. Some also test as dravite, while others belong to the fluor-uvite series.
The crystal has broad, flat, highly reflective faces that are smooth and lustrous, offering an exceptional representation of tourmalines from this historic site. Specimens from Pierrepont and similar localities have become increasingly difficult to find, making this piece a fine example of East Coast tourmalines.
