This Elbaite Tourmaline from the Dunton Gem Quarry, in Newry, Maine, is a classic example of the renowned specimens from this historic locality. The Dunton Gem Quarry was first discovered in 1898 by Henry C. Hall, the brother-in-law of landowner Joshua Abbott and began yielding fine minerals in 1927. However, its most famous find possibly occurred in 1972 with the discovery of many fine elbaite specimens such as this one. This piece, with its steeply tapered, stylized form, exemplifies the iconic characteristics that have made the quarry legendary for over a century, it's a hallmark of Dunton Quarry elbaites that is rarely seen worldwide. With excellent blue-green hues, this is a fine representative of the classic East Coast tourmaline aesthetic.
