From time to time, researchers reach out to us in search of large titanite specimens for study—and this offering should certainly be of interest. The bucket contains several substantial pieces of mostly massive titanite, collected during a recent field trip. While much of the material is massive in form, some specimens display partial crystal faces. This material comes from a locality well known to Ontario rockhounds: the Smart Mine, also referred to as the Miller Property. This site, part of a calcite vein-dyke system, was historically mined for fluorapatite used in fertilizer production. Today, it is a popular destination for collectors seeking titanite, fluorapatite, amphibole, zircon, and other Grenvillian minerals. Given the locality and the scale of the material, this batch is ideal for both research and reference purposes.
