These Grenvillian titanites from the Moncerf area of Quebec are highly prized by collectors for their superb crystal development, characterized by a distinctive shimmering velvety, almost leather-like, lustre and razor-sharp edges. Although titanite is typically brittle and often forms in challenging geological environments, this locality has earned a reputation for producing exceptional, well-preserved examples. This specimen is an excellent example, showcasing a fairly large, striking crystal resting on a bed of green diopside for an elegant composition. The main crystal is sharply defined, with crisp edges and excellent form. While the upper edge may appear damaged, it is not, one area simply shows interrupted growth with intergrown calcite. Overall, it is a complete and highly attractive piece.
