This specimen features a fairly well-formed rust-brown, euhedral thorium-bearing thorite crystal from the lesser-known Kemp Uranium Mine. Thorite is a rare thorium nesosilicate and is isomorphous with zircon and hafnon. As the most common thorium mineral, it is nearly always strongly radioactive. This is an ideal for crystal for rare-element collectors. High-quality thorite specimens are exceedingly difficult to acquire today, and those from the Kemp prospects rank among the finest ever discovered. This one was collected by a colleague, Aaron Markussen.
