Poland

$85.00

This sculptural and striking specimen showcases a combination of vivid canary-yellow, lustrous, and translucent sulphur crystals, densely clustered on an elongated matrix made up of translucent brown baryte blades. A single micro celestine crystal can be seen perched atop the upper sulphur layer.

The specimen originates from the famous Machów Mine, a now-exhausted open-pit sulphur mine renowned for producing exceptional sulphur, baryte, and celestine specimens. Sulphur mining at this locality dates back to the 15th century. While there is some minor periphery wear on the back, it remains out of sight from the display angle, preserving the piece's aesthetic appeal.

This classic and rich specimen comes with an old label from the University of British Columbia Geological Museum. For further information about the Machów Mine and its minerals, see the Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 23, No. 1 (1992).
