Stibnite

This visually striking specimen hails from the historic Baia Sprie Mine (formerly Felsobanya) in Romania. It features an impressive display of sharp, lustrous, and prismatic stibnite crystals, exhibiting a metallic, silvery-black sheen. The specimen showcases radiating sprays of bladed stibnite crystals with low pyramidal terminations, forming three-dimensional clusters that densely cover the little matrix left on the bottom side. Most of the crystals remain in excellent condition, a hallmark of well-preserved specimens from this long-closed locality.

Baia Sprie, one of Romania’s most celebrated mining sites, was renowned for producing exceptional stibnite specimens during its peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This miniature piece displays many of a the qualities that make Baia Sprie stibnites highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
