Stevensite ps. after Pectolite

Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey
USA
Dimensions: 8.0x6.9x5.2 cm
Price: CA

$140.00

This specimen features a fairly large piece of, peach-beige coloured stevensite pseudomorph after a radiating crystal mass of pectolite. Some of the original pectolite may remain unaltered within the interior. A small vug on one side reveals numerous prismatic crystals, visible under magnification. This piece is among the rarest pseudomorphs found in the New Jersey Trap Rocks. Unlike the more common prehnite after anhydrite replacements, this specimen showcases stevensite replacing pectolite—an exceptional occurrence. Although often mistaken for a zeolite due to its frequent association with them, stevensite is actually part of the smectite group of clay minerals.
