This specimen features a dense intergrowth of silver-bearing minerals. There is a patch of what looks like, silvery, tabular arsenopyrite crystals near the top centre of the arsenic-rich matrix. Scattered across the right side are gemmy red proustite crystals, while prismatic, hexagonal, metallic-iridescent sternbergite microcrystals are distributed throughout the piece. Small bits of yellow arsenolite are also present. Sternbergite is an extremely rare silver–iron sulfosalt (AgFe₂S₃) and a dimorph of argentopyrite. Specimens of sternbergite are exceptionally rare from any locality, making this a great example for collectors of silver minerals or Saxon classics. A true feast for the eyes under the microscope!
