This choice miniature specimen features a sharp, highly lustrous, dark reddish-brown sphalerite crystal cluster—often referred to by collectors as “Ruby Jack” for its gem-like colour and brilliance. The specimen originates from the former company town of Nanisivik, Nunavut, located some 750 km north of the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island.

The Nanisivik Mine, which opened on October 15, 1976, was among the most northerly mines in the world. While sphalerite was the primary ore extracted, the mine quickly became renowned for producing distinctive and high-quality mineral specimens treasured by collectors worldwide. Operations ceased permanently in September 2002 due to declining resources and low metal prices, but Nanisivik remains celebrated as a classic Canadian locality.

This particular piece comes from the distinguished collection of Dr. Peter Tarassoff, further enhancing its value and significance to both collectors and mineralogists.

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). International customers are charged in CAD, exchange rate is calculated automatically by your bank/paypal upon checkout.
