Sperrylite (priced per sample)

I have a number of micromount and research-worthy sperrylite samples available, all containing crystals less than 1 mm. If you are interested, please contact me and I can hand-select a specimen for you. I’m also happy to send photos beforehand so you can choose your preferred sample, just ask. Otherwise, I’ll simply select a representative specimen at random and send it your way. They are all of similar quality.

The specimens all feature sharp, well-formed cube-octahedral sperrylite crystals partially embedded yet well exposed in matrix. Some samples contain multiple crystals and may host additional crystals elsewhere buried within the matrix. Under magnification, the crystals display bright metallic lustre with mirror-like reflective faces, making excellent micromount or study specimens of this rare platinum arsenide mineral.

Sperrylite was first discovered in 1889 by Francis Lewis Sperry, a chemist working in Sudbury, Ontario, for whom the mineral is named. As one of the few naturally occurring platinum-bearing minerals, sperrylite remains an important ore mineral of platinum and a highly sought-after species among micromount and rare mineral collectors.
