This toe-nail specimen from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine, Namibia features a twisted plate of host matrix richly covered in lustrous, lime-green cuprian smithsonite. The crystals form a sparkling druse across the sculptural contoured surface, their vibrant colour a hallmark of copper substitution in the smithsonite structure.
Cuprian smithsonite is one of the most sought-after colour varieties from Tsumeb. This example is a fine, attractive representative of the species from one of the world’s most celebrated and diverse mineral localities. A superb small example that comes from the well-regarded collection of Peter Tarassoff, a name well-known among Canadian collectors for his discerning eye and contributions to the hobby.
