An attractive historic smithsonite specimen from the famous Lavrion Mining District of Greece, featuring a surface completely covered by softly rounded botryoidal aggregates of pale green smithsonite. The bubbly botryoids display a pleasing structure and a characteristic waxy lustre giving it the distinctive appearance that is immediately recognizable as classic Lavrion smithsonite.

Smithsonite from Lavrion is considerably less common than many of the locality’s more famous lead minerals, and attractive specimens such as this are seldom encountered on the market. This example originates from the interconnected Kamariza mining complex that has produced mineral specimens since antiquity. The Lavrion district is one of the world's great classic mineral localities, renowned for its remarkable diversity and rich mining history stretching back over two thousand years. Ex. Robert Yeoman collection. A fine and increasingly difficult-to-obtain example of classic Greek smithsonite.
