This palm-sized specimen displays vibrant, apple-green smithsonite coating a folded gossan host rock. The velvety, vitreous texture and rich green colour of the botryoidal smithsonite make it both attractive and distinctive. The unique shade of green, caused by copper content, is a hallmark of smithsonite from the 79 Mine in Arizona. Cuprian green smithsonite is rare and highly sought after, with the 79 Mine being recognized for producing some of the finest examples from any locality in the state. This specimen comes from a recent find at this historic mine.
