Silver, Saffrolite, Nickeline

Lawson Mine, Coleman twp., Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 6.5x6.9x1.9 cm
Price: CA

This striking slice showcases a superb mix of arborescent and globular native silver mixed within safflorite and accompanied by nickeline in  dolomitic country rock. The piece is cut on one side to reveal the internal textures while remaining rough on the reverse. It originates from the Lawson Mine, a historic locality discovered in 1904 by four prospectors. The site has a storied history, marked by a legal dispute after one of the original claim holders sold the property for $250 to H.S. Lawson. The Lawson vein, one of the mine's defining features, was remarkably rich, measuring up to 0.5 meters (1.6 feet) wide, 100 meters (328 feet) long, and extending to depths of 60 meters (197 feet).
