This specimen, from the Frontier Mine, exhibits a calcite vein containing abundant bright silver leaf and violet safflorite, partially exposed through acid etching. The Frontier Mine, established in 1921, is one of two mines on the same vein system and is connected underground to the Keeley Mine. The Keeley Mine, the older of the two, was discovered in 1907. In 1962, the Frontier Mine was connected to the Keeley Mine at the Keeley 6th level, and it was subsequently shut down in 1965.
