A small bit of silver leaf is exposed on this specimen from the historic silver mines in Kongsberg. These mines were in operation between 1623 until 1958. At its peak, more than 4000 people worked in the mining industry in Kongsberg. German mining engineers were used from the start and for more than two centuries, and are the cause for all the German names on mines and streets in Kongsberg. The Kongsberg silver mines are now protected as historical sites, collecting inside the mines and outside on the dumps is illegal.* It is difficult to acquire a silver specimen from this famous place!
