Canada
Dimensions: 17.0x17.0x7.0 cm

$875.00

A large and richly mineralized cabinet specimen featuring abundant dendritic native silver intergrown with safflorite and associated arsenides throughout the vein structure. One face has been sawn to reveal the complex interior, showing well-defined dendritic silver with safflorite coating the native metal. The opposite side remains natural and rough, showing silver protruding through, and preserving the original vein texture. This ore style is characteristic of the historic Castle Mine, one of the most significant producers in the Cobalt–Gowganda silver district.

Discovered in 1917, the Castle deposit was developed through two shafts by Castle–Trethewey Mines Ltd., yielding approximately 6.5 million ounces of silver and 300,000 pounds of cobalt by the end of 1931. The mine later reopened under Agnico-Eagle Mines in 1983, which rehabilitated the Castle #3 shaft (reaching 11 levels to a depth of 850 feet) and operated until the late 1980s. Today, the property covers roughly 78 square kilometres, with only a small portion historically explored for silver, leaving substantial potential for future discoveries.

This impressive specimen exemplifies the classic mineral assemblage of the Castle Mine and stands as a noteworthy representation of the region’s unique and internationally significant silver geology. A striking centre piece addition for collectors of native silver, Cobalt Camp history, or large display-grade ore specimens.
