This specimen consists of both halves of a nodule of ore rock, precisely cut down the centre, providing a clear view of high grade silver intermingled with safflorite, within off-white dolomitic host rock, characteristic of the mineralization found in the region. It's nice to have both sides of the rock and be able to put them back together showcasing the material as it appears when detected by metal detectors in the Cobalt area. The specimen comes from the O’Brien Mine, known for yielding high-grade ore during its operational peak, the mine produced zones rich in well-crystallized specimens, including acanthite pseudomorphs after argentite, proustite, and other secondary silver minerals. Remarkably, some of this material, overlooked by miners, can still be found on mine dumps today. Collectors who encounter well-crystallized specimens from this or other Cobalt-area mines are likely handling historical pieces from the original mining operations.
