Temiskaming Mine, Coleman twp, nr Cobalt, Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 15.5x8.1x2.7 cm
Price: CA

$75.00

This specimen, sawn on one side and rough on the other, exhibits an excellent vein section. On the sawn side, the silver appears as shiny, sectioned metallic masses, while on the rough side, it protrudes from the arsenides as metallic knobs. This specimen is exemplary both as a silver specimen and as a geological example of vein structure at Cobalt, showcasing the mineralization that made Cobalt one of the world's major silver-producing areas.

The Temiskaming Mine, one of the earlier mines in the Cobalt mining camp, was discovered in 1906. Initially, the discovery vein contained no silver, but silver was found at a depth of 80 feet. The deposit was developed with three shafts, the deepest reaching 1600 feet. The mine was shut down in 1989 by Agnico Mines Ltd.*
