This is a specimen of senegalite, an exceptionally rare hydrated aluminum hydroxy phosphate. First described in 1976 and named after Senegal, the site of its type locality, this species remains incredibly scarce, with occurrences limited to Senegal and Brazil. This thumbnail specimen showcases sparkling yellow crystals of senegalite, set atop a layer of turquoise on a limonite matrix. A must-have for collectors of rare species or minerals from type localities.
