This specimen features saturated cherry-red realgar crystals completely covering the front face of its matrix. While most of the crystals are intact, some exhibit minor bruising. These crystals originate from a renowned Washington locality, with many specimens collected prior to the 1960s. Realgar is known to fade and decay into orpiment if exposed to sunlight, indicating that this piece has been meticulously preserved in the dark for decades. It is understood that most specimens from this locality have undergone acid etching to expose the realgar embedded in calcite veins. This specimen also includes an L. Riechel Collection label. Extremely rare to find these these days, but they do pop up from old collections such as this occasionally.
