Quartz (sceptre)

Grant Quarry, Greely quartz occurrence, Osgoode Township, Ottawa, Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 3.8x1.8x1.3 cm
Price: CA

This smoky quartz sceptre comes from the Grant Quarry in Greely, Ontario, a locality known for producing high-quality quartz and calcite specimens. The crystal exhibits intense lustre, with glassy, well-formed faces and remarkable interior light refraction. Similar in formation to the famous "Herkimer Diamond" occurrences, this specimen showcases the same high transparency and sharp crystal habit. Aside from the natural contact point at its base, where it was removed from the pocket wall, the piece is in excellent condition.

The Grant Quarry is part of the Beekmantown Formation, a widespread geological unit that extends from Saratoga Springs and Herkimer, New York, through St-Clothilde and St-Eustache, Quebec, to Greely, Ontario. Quartz specimens from this locality are rarely seen and highly sought after by collectors familiar with their scarcity. This particular specimen (which could JUST fit into a perky box at a 45* angle), being a sceptre, is unusual for the locality making it a unique find.
