Pyromorphite is among the most sought-after secondary lead minerals, and the Les Farges Mine in Corrèze, France, is recognized as one of the world's classic localities for the species. Although the mine closed in 1981, it produced an extraordinary range of crystal habits and colours, from vivid greens and oranges to the distinctive mustard-yellow material that has become synonymous with the locality.
This rich miniature displays a dense covering of lustrous, pyromorphite crystals coating both sides and the crest of a wedge-shaped baryte matrix. The sharply formed hexagonal prisms exhibit the classic Les Farges colouration, with orangey-brown crystals accented by mustard-yellow terminations. A classic French specimen from this celebrated locality, preserved with provenance from the Peter Tarassoff Collection.
