Pyrite, Analcime

Poudrette quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM, Montérégie, Québec
Canada
Dimensions: 2.8x1.7x1.6 cm
Price: CA

A truly intriguing and attractive thumbnail specimen featuring a pyrite pseudomorph from the world-famous Poudrette Quarry at Mont Saint-Hilaire. The pyrite appears to have replaced an earlier mineral species, possibly pyrrhotite, though the exact identity of the precursor remains uncertain. Pyrite is a relatively uncommon species at this locality, making this piece especially noteworthy. Accompanying the pyrite are several fairly tabular analcime pseudomorphs displaying distinctive reticulated crystal faces, adding some complexity to the overall composition. Also present is a fine-grained black mineral, likely aegirine, but again unknown. The piece was collected by Peter Tarassoff in 2003, this specimen represents a rare opportunity to own an unusual example of pyrite from Mont Saint-Hilaire, a locality celebrated worldwide for its remarkable mineral diversity and unique parageneses.
