A surprisingly uncommon specimen from Mont Saint-Hilaire, featuring a striking cluster of well-formed pyrite crystals. The crystals are a rich golden-brassy colour with a bright metallic lustre, showing classic cubic form and good size for the locality. Minor bruising is present, but overall the piece remains in excellent condition and displays very well. Pyrite is not commonly encountered here, making this a particularly desirable and somewhat unusual example.
Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, is one of the most mineralogically diverse localities in the world, renowned for its abundance of rare and exotic species. In contrast, well-crystallized pyrite is seldom seen, especially in aesthetic cluster form. With collecting now prohibited and material becoming increasingly scarce, specimens such as this represent an excellent opportunity to add a classic but uncommon association to a Mont Saint-Hilaire collection. Nicely mounted on an acrylic base for display.
