This is a high-quality, small cabinet-sized specimen of classic pyrite from the Quiruvilca Mine in Peru. Approximately the size of a baseball, it features dozens of well-formed octahedral crystals with slight edge modifications and a soft golden metallic hue. There is very minor bruising on the display side and roughness on the bottom where it was detached from the mine surface. Despite these minor imperfections, the specimen's elegant form and overall aesthetics make it a superb example of pyrite from this renowned locality. While pyrite is one of the most common sulfide minerals and occurs worldwide, the exceptional specimens from the Quiruvilca Mine are widely regarded as some of the finest octahedral examples ever discovered.
