Pyrite

This specimen is a large and remarkable pyrite from the Port au Port Peninsula in Newfoundland. It features clusters of stepped cubic crystals on a rounded, amorphous, unstructured base.

In recent years, the Port au Port Peninsula, located on the west coast of Newfoundland, has become a prolific source of exceptional mineral specimens. One of the most notable discoveries in this region is the occurrence of pyrite nodules and crystals embedded in the shales of West Bay, Tea Cove, and Lead Cove. These pyrite specimens, often found as dense, heavy nodules, showcase excellent crystal formations and stand out for their size and quality.
