Purpurite, a manganese-iron phosphate mineral, is highly sought after for its rarity and striking, iridescent purple colour. This vibrant mineral is most commonly found in the manganese-rich regions of southwestern Africa, with some of the finest specimens sourced from the Sandamap area. This particular specimen, acquired by Dr. Tarassoff in 1959, displays the characteristic iridescent purpurite on five of its six sides, making it a notable example of this rare species prized by collectors.
