This specimen showcases a plate featuring numerous lustrous, dark reddish-black, prismatic neptunite crystals, with the largest measuring approximately 1 cm, set against a bright white natrolite backdrop and muted blue-grey crossite beneath. The crystals are sharp and aesthetic, though a few are incomplete. Sourced from the famed California State Gem Mine, the premier locality for this striking titanium-bearing mineral. Neptunite from this mine is globally recognized as the finest of its kind. The now-closed Gem Mine has produced the most well-known and celebrated specimens, revered for their beauty, jet-black luster, and exceptional quality.
