This specimen features reddish-brown, platy, partially altered mosandrite-(Ce), a rare REE-silicate, in paragenesis with white microcline and black biotite mica. Has a very slight orange glow under UV light and originates from its type locality on Låven Island, Norway.
Låven is a world-renowned mineral deposit and a protected geological site where collecting is strictly forbidden. Located south of Stokkøya in Langesundsfjorden, this small island and its surrounding reefs contain many exceptionally rare minerals. The northern part of the islet consists of basalt, while a younger pegmatite intrusion has cut through the basalt, forming the upper and southern sections of the island. This unique geological setting has made Låven an important locality for rare mineral discoveries.
