This specimen features lustrous molybdenite crystals with a characteristic silvery-blue metallic sheen, set against a gray-brown matrix. The molybdenite exhibits a typical layered matrix structure. The specimen originates from the Seikyu Mine, a hydrothermal vein-type molybdenum deposit that was actively mined from 1954 until 1966.
Adding to its historical and scientific value, this particular piece was gifted to Dr. Tarassoff by Professor Yazawa and Professor Nambu of the Research Institute of Mineral Dressing and Metallurgy at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. The connection to these distinguished researchers highlights the specimen's significance, both as a mineralogical example and as a piece of academic history.
