This specimen is from the Moat Mountain in New Hampshire, a locality renowned for its excellent microcline and quartz combinations. It features half a dozen subparallel translucent smoky quartz crystals set in a bed of sparkling white albite. Surrounding the albite are blocky, pale white microcline feldspar crystals with hints of amazonite green. Additionally, there are patches of tan botryoidal opal on the smoky quartz, which fluoresce a very bright green under ultraviolet light. This specimen beautifully exemplifies the unique pegmatite mineralogy of the Moat Mountain locality.
