An attractive miniature specimen featuring a loonie-sized cluster of sharp, brassy marcasite crystals set on a pale limestone matrix. The cluster is composed of brilliant, iridescent crystals showing golden, bronze, and subtle violet-blue tones that shimmer beautifully under light. The marcasite forms well-defined, lustrous crystal faces typical of fine specimens from this locality.
Collected from the Flamboro Quarry in southwestern Ontario, one of the province’s classic and historically productive mineral localities, this piece exemplifies the aesthetic potential of Ontario sulfide minerals. The quarry has produced attractive examples of fluorite, sphalerite, calcite, and marcasite over the decades, but quality pieces like this are increasingly hard to come by as collecting access has become restricted. A fine, display-worthy specimen showcasing the distinctive iridescence and sharp crystal habit that make Flamboro marcasite so recognizable and desirable among collectors.
